Near to the Tunel entrance and hidden away on Perçemli Street is the entrance to this museum (closed on Saturday Tel. 0212 292 6333) and has been housed inside what was the Zülfaris Synagogue.  A synagogue has been on this site since the 17th century although today’s building was paid for by the rich Kamondo family in 1890, and became redundant in 1985 and opened as a museum in 2001.

Inside the courtyard is a statue by artist Naida Arditti called “The Soaring Flame” to represent {reklam,300,250,1} the many Turkish Jews who have died in different parts of the world.  The main part of the museum is inside what was the prayer hall which has been wonderfully restored to its full neo-classical grandeur that has a history section leading into galleries that has information on the Kamondo family.  Underneath here there is a room dedicated to Jewish social life and has models depicting a wedding day and a circumcision room.
