Sultan Mahmud II first developed the land in Maslak Park (closed Mondays and Thursdays) as a country retreat which was then given to Abdulhamid II by his uncle Sultan Abdulaziz in the hope of discouraging him from sailing to Tarabya which was considered perilous at that time. Abdülhamid’s office and sleeping quarters are housed in the Imperial Lodge (Kasr-ı Humayun) which is now a museum and he carved the banisters of the main staircase there and also the frames for the mirrors that are over the beds. The Royal Apartments (Maybeyb-i Humayun) are surrounded by many rare plants, and in the greenhouse (Limonluk) you will find camellias that Abdülhamid imported from France, and there is a café inside the octagonal Tent Pavilion (Çadır Kasrı). The Paşa’s Quarters are used solely for administrative purposes.
Although the pavilions may not be open for viewing the very pleasant grounds offer a wonderful and peaceful oasis away from the centre of Maslak .
