Becin Ancient City

Becin Ancient City
This ancient city is located on a steep rock 200m high, 5km south of Milas and was named “Pezona” by medieval Italians, and Bercin, Pecin and Becin by Turks and Islamists.

From excavations carried out here evidence shows its history dates back to 2,000 BC and in 1972 a cache of coins were found, 60,000 of which are Islamic and 850 European, making it not only the largest amount ever discovered in Turkey but also the largest amount of Ottoman coins ever to be found.

The site is comprised of a fortress with a settlement inside surrounded by a 1.5m thick walls, a single entrance to the south surrounded by steep rocky slopes on three sides and a high tower and double walls which are partially demolished. There are also very well preserved structures and external walls with ramparts to be found at Kepez and Sigmen offering views across the Milas plains.
