Oren Keramos Ancient City

Keramos was once known as Gereme; it is located on the Gulf of Gokova , is 45km from Bodrum and 50km from Milas .
On the Mesekaya Mountains there are ruins of city walls, with the lower parts having rows of polygon type stones and the upper parts using straight cut stones, and in the region of Bakicak there is a stone terrace with two significant temples that measure an impressive 25m in height.
There is also a building called Kursunluyapi (Building with Lead) so named as lead was used to bond the stones, and original well preserved and beautifully structured terrace walls in the south and west but the eastern side are destroyed.
Corinthian and Ionic styled buildings are at the level ground of the terrace and the temple area is thought to have been dedicated to Zeus Krysaoreus.
The Akyapi (White Building) inside the town is a large complex constructed in Roman times and if you visit this site via the Gokova road the aqueduct can be seen just behind the Mesekaya Mountains.
