Wine Production in Cesme

Wine Production in Cesme
Cesme used to be a popular town with vineyards and wine production during the Greek period.

Wine Production in History

As Cesme ( Smyrna with its ancient name) is situated by the seaside, the town used to export its wines to other parts of the world with the ships arriving to the town regularly. Due to the wine's quality, Cesme rapidly became famous. (Some of the other products that they were exporting were olive, tobacco and melon).

Wine Production Today

Currently, there is still couple of wine producers located in Cesme.
Cesme Bagcilik is the largest company, who is famous for their Chateau Agrilia line, which includes Cabernet Sauvignon - Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon - Merlot and Chardonnay. The company has 2,000 acres of vineyard.
Gemici Wines is a smaller company situated in Alacati, which opened in 2004. They produce Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon wines.

Cesme Marina Wine Festival

Cesme Marina Wine Festival is taking place every year towards the end of August or the beginning of September. In 2012, the attendants tried 180 different wines, and some of the sponsors were Doluca wines, Gali wines, Kavaklidere, Kayra, Sevilen, Urla wines and Kup wines.
