Temple of Serapis
Serapis is a Hellenistic god that was created by the Ptolemaic’s of Egypt as a means to unite Greeks and Egyptians and the god was depicted having a Greek appearance with Egyptian adornments and combined traditional symbolic forms of different cults to signify both abundance and resurrection. The ruins of this
3rd century AD temple are located on the Sacred Way that leads from Miletos where other ancient ruins along the path include a 1st century Ionic stoa, huge Capito baths, a gymnasium, a very large public fountain, a 6th century Byzantine church, north and south Agoras and the Roman Baths of Faustina who was the wife of Marcus Aurelius.
