Things to do in Koycegiz

Koycegiz sits between Mugla and Fethiye and this former fishing village has much to offer its visitors; from boat tours on Lake Köyceğiz to relaxing on the İztuzu Beach or at the Sultaniye Thermal Spring ; or exploring the historical ancient site of Kaunos and taking long strolls along the beautiful shoreline or in its charming town that has everything a visitor needs.

Cafes, Bars and Shops

The town’s has a population of around 8,500 and the Lake Köyceğiz is clean with crystal clear water and a great place to sit during the day or at night in any one of the cafés along its shores where you can take in the lake and mountain views whilst sipping refreshments, or perhaps smoking a traditional “nargile” water-pipe. Near to the lake are bars, some with live music, a small amusement park, markets and cheap souvenir shops and other places to eat.

Boat Trips

Boat trips from the Lake to İztuzu Beach are available and usually leave around 10:00 every morning and head first to Sultaniye to visit one of Turkey’s oldest thermal spas with water that has healing properties to aid rheumatism and other skin complaints, and visitors take mud baths here that are also fantastic for the skin.

After one hour the boats will leave for Dalyan where they sail past the Kaunos ancient Lycian Tombs that were carved into the bedrock over 3,000 years ago (the boats do not stop here but access to these can be made by road).
At this point you are usually offered lunch after which you are taken to İztuzu Beach to see the loggerhead or Caretta Caretta sea turtles. As the turtle’s nests are protected it is prohibited for anyone to dig in the sand or place umbrellas but sunshades are provided on the beach.
At 17:00 the boat will return you to Koycegiz and make a few stops along the way for passengers to take a swim.
