Stone Tombs of the Kings - Ancient Telmessos

Stone Tombs of the Kings - Ancient Telmessos
Stone Tombs (or Kaya Mezarlari in Turkish) in Fethiye dates back to the Lycian period, to the 4th century. The largest stone tomb, situated at the top, belongs to King Amintas. The remaining ones are for the wealthy families of the period. Each tomb has writings at the entrance, giving information on the family. As well as putting their dead loved ones in these tombs, they used to put gold, silver, their high quality dresses and statues.

To reach the stone tombs, you will need to climb 200 steps. However, when you do, you will witness a stunning view over Fethiye. As Ancient Telmessos is situated on a SIT area (protected area), excavations are not allowed, which restricts us to learn more on this ancient city.
