Anglican Church Istanbul

Anglican Church Istanbul
The Anglican Church is located on the street of Serdari Ekrem that extends into Galip Dede Street in Beyoglu and is used by the Sri Lankan Anglican community. Lord Stratford Canning laid the foundations in 1856 and it was built in memory of English soldiers who participated in the Crimean War with funds provided by Sultan Abdülmecid (1823-1861). The church is made entirely from stone and has a Neo-Gothic architectural style that was brought from Malta. The church closed in 1971 due to its lack of congregation and was reopened in 1991 by Sri Lankan refugees for services under the direction of an Anglican priest.
