Ayse Sultan Fountain Istanbul

Ayse Sultan Fountain Istanbul
The Ayşe Sultan Fountain is located on Imrahor Street in front of the Imrahor Mosque in Uskudar . It was built by order of Ayse Sultan, one of Sultan Murat III (1546-1595) daughters. There is a historical inscription on the façade of the fountain written in celi s Ulus script and reads “Pure water of the fountain of life 1007”.

This charming structure preserves traces of Ottoman architecture from the Classical period, and in particular the red and white panelled arch decorated with palmated rosettes that are tiered with a slight arch moulding and by incorporating these techniques the aesthetic image of the structure has been reinforced. The fountain was actively used until 1940 and in the following years the water was provided by the city’s water network.
