Location of AyvansarayThe very picturesque area of Ayvansaray is a district of Istanbul located in a section of the walled city and the Fatih neighbourhood. Ayvansaray is between the southern shoreline of the Golden Horn , the Blachernae section of the walls and the neighbourhoods of Balat and Edirnekapi .
The NameThe name Ayvansaray means “High Palace and dates back to the times of the Palace of Alexios I Komnenos, which has since disappeared, and was part of the Blachernae complex.
Places to Visit in AyvansarayAyvansaray has a number of historic monuments such as Tekfur Palace or Palace of the Porphyrogenitus, the mosque of Atik Mustafa Pasha, once a medieval Byzantine church, and the Ayazma ( holy spring ) that is enclosed in the small church of St. Mary of Blachernae.
Getting to AyvansarayTo get to Ayvansaray from Eminonu take Bus No. 99A, and from Taksim Bus No. 55T. To get to Edirnekapi from Eminönü take Bus No. 32. There is a metrobus stop close to Edirnekapı.
