Bahariye Road in Kadikoy

Bahariye Road in Kadikoy
The pedestrian street of Bahariye Road is officially called General Asım Gündüz, although no one uses this name, and is the Asian side equivalent of Istiklal Road that also has an old fashioned tram that takes passengers to Moda .

Places of Interest

On the street is the attractive and grand Surreya Opera House (www.sureyyaoperasi.org) that was donated to the city by Surreya and Adalet Ilmen in 1924.  It was converted to a cinema but later restored back to an opera house in 2007.  The façade is adorned with carvings of the Muses, masks of tragedy and comedy and has a fabulous interior.

Next to the building is a modern marble sculpture by Neslihan Pala called Vodvil (Vaudeville).

Dining

You will also find many charming inexpensive bars and cafés around the side streets here.

Getting to Bahariye Road

The best way to get to Bahariye Road is to walk from the harbour up Sogutlucesme Road or Caddesi until you come to the statue of the bull and then turn right.
