Most construction work has been developed in the last 20 years catering to the wealthy or for those on high incomes, has many famous people residing here and its own commercial centre with offices. It also connects to the Edirne railway line from the nearby Ispartakule train station.
It is home to the Bahcesehir University, a private Turkish educational institution established by the National Assembly in 1998 that consists of nine faculties, one vocational school and three institutes providing post graduate education, along with the first science and technology high school, four private primary-secondary schools, two public elementary schools, one public high school, two private high schools, public and private health centres, a police station, an amphitheatre , post offices and cultural, entertainment and shopping centres. Bahcesehir was planned as a satellite city to give 12m2 of green space per capita with 40,000m2 of planted forestation and provided a wastewater treatment plant with a purpose of preventing environmental pollution and to irrigate the green areas.
It also has Turkey's first and largest artificial lake with an area of over 300,000m2 and a complex that includes a pond, various restaurants, private clubs, bars, discos, tea gardens and has equestrian sport and other sport facilities.
