Bayrampasa Complex Istanbul

Bayrampasa Complex Istanbul
Walking further along Haseki Kadin Street is the Bayrampasa Complex and which the road here has divided into two parts.  Bayram Paşa, son in law to Sultan Ahmed I and Grand Vizier to Sultan Murad IV gave his name to this western district of Istanbul.  In 1638 this charming complex of buildings was erected to be his memorial with an enormous tomb as its centrepiece.   Bayram Paşa died during the successful 1698 campaign to recapture Baghdad.

On the right side of the road is the medrese and has shops running along its ground floor with chimneys protruding from their roofs.  On the left side of the road is a beautiful sebil (water dispenser) sitting in front of the huge tomb that has a lovely wooden porch although unfortunately it is falling apart. In the pretty small garden there is a domed mescit and porticoed dervish lodge (tekke) that is currently used as a women’s clinic.
