Belgrade Gate or Belgradkapi Istanbul

Belgrade Gate or Belgradkapi Istanbul
Prisoners of war from Serbia (Belgrade) were brought here in 1512 by Sultan Suleyman the Magnificent for resettlement and this is how the gate acquired its name.  Inside the wall is a shrine dedicated to Uykulu (Sleepy) Muhiddin Efendi who was believed to help people suffering from insomnia.
Where the walls have been restored, this is the main point from where the annual celebrations take place to commemorate the conquest of Istanbul on May 29, 1943 and if you want to see the whole parade its recommended you arrive by midday.

Location

Belgrade Gate is located in Yedikule district of Fatih .
