The name Besiktas means “cradle stone” and it is claimed that a piece of Jesus’ cradle was brought here from Bethlehem by early Christians and placed in a local church, and later taken to Hagia Sophia from where it was believed to be stolen by the Fourth Crusaders in the 1204.
