Beyazit Hamam Istanbul
The double hamam underwent basic restorations in 2008 and can be found on the main road in Beyazit Fatih .
At the back of the hamam is the lovely Hasan Paşa Medrese built in 1745 by architect Mustafa Çelebi for Grand Vizier Tokatlı Hasan Paşa. On its façade is a delicately carved birdhouse, one of the city’s best examples, in the shape of a mosque with minarets. There is a charming sebil (water dispenser) on one corner that has been inscribed in calligraphy by Hocazade Ahmed Efendi.
The Medrese is now home to Istanbul University’s Institute of Turkish Studies.
