Beylerbeyi is the next village on from Kuzguncuk and houses the white marble summer residence of the Ottoman sultans Beylerbeyi Palace . Built in the 19th century and admired by modern European visitors, especially Empress Eugénie, who after her visit in 1869 installed copies of its windows into the Tuilereries Palace in Paris. The interior was designed by Sultan Abdulaziz himself and Sultan Abdulamid II, during six years of imprisonment and up to his death in 1918, carved furniture that can today be seen in the Harem. The twisting central staircase, neo-Islamic patterned ceilings and Egyptian reed matting floor are just some of the things to be admired here.
