Church of St. John the Baptist Istanbul

Church of St. John the Baptist Istanbul
This church, also known as the Church of Hagios Ioannis Prodromos, is on Müsel Paşa Road and was originally linked to the church of St. Catherine in Sinai, Egypt.  A church has been on this site since the 14th century although today’s building only dates back to 1830.  There are remnants of a library and guesthouse at the back that were attached to what remains of the grand house there and was once the home of Panagotaki Nikosi, a 17th century politician.  You can actually see how high the ground has risen over the years as the gate here is half buried.
