Cicek Pasaji or Flower Arcade Taksim Istanbul

Cicek Pasaji or Flower Arcade Taksim Istanbul

Located next to Tokatliyan Han

As you walk down  Istiklal Road (Caddesi) on the right side is the Tokatliyan Han that sits on the site of the Tokatliyan Hotel which in the 19th century was the second largest hotel in  Istanbul after the Pera Palas . Right next to this is the wonderfully decorated Flower Arcade and has a sign above the entrance that reads “Cite de Pera”.

Restaurants in Cicek Passage

The arcade has become famous for the mezes (appetisers) and rakı that is on offer here and served to you under a glass roof in a cobblestoned courtyard that has gypsy musicians serenading you at your table whilst you dine.

It was the Naum Theatre that once stood here and as it burnt down in
1870 was rebuilt as the shops and apartments that you see today. In the 1930s the restaurants began placing tables outside and White Russian refugees that escaped the Bolshevik Revolution sold flowers here and this is how it came by its pretty name, and Madam Anahit, a renowned accordion player, used to play here. Unfortunately due to total neglect the original Flower Arcade collapsed overnight and underwent complete restoration in 1988 and further works more recently, and each time it has taken away its original atmosphere.

Cite de Pera Today

The arcade is still very popular for a night out and another popular place is Nevizade Street ( Sokak ) which is located at the back.
