Dutch and Italian Consulates on Istiklal Road
The Dutch ConsulateThe Dutch Consulate, which stands behind iron gates, was built in 1855 by Gaspare and Guiseppe Fossati; the Swiss architects who also helped restore Hagia Sophia . There is a steep street that runs down beside Tom Tom Kaptan Street and is where the Dutch Chapel is and was the first Protestant place of worship in Istanbul .
Near to the Dutch Embassy at Istiklal Road No: 201 there is a large shop housed in a 1920s Art Nouveau building with an interior of sparkling glass and wood and certainly worth a visit even if you are not buying anything.
