This attractive Byzantine church was founded at the end of the 12th century by Empress Anna Delessena, mother of Alexius I Comnenus.

Design of the Mosque

It has a four column structure and one of the most interesting
 exteriors of all the Byzantine churches in Istanbul . The original curved tiles on its roof and 12-sided dome have been preserved and the eaves are decorated with zigzags and Greek keys into the brickwork. Some of the original fittings remain, in particular the red marble door frames, decorations around the cornice supporting the dome and the two side apses with their original windows and marble cornice.

Opening Hours

To gain access to this mosque in Zeyrek you need to arrive at prayer time or ask the imam to open the door for you.
