Fatih Ibrahim Pasa Medrese

Fatih Ibrahim Pasa Medrese
This medrese can be found on Kocamustafapasa Road and is another of Mimar Sinan ’s works, and in 2009 underwent rather crude restoration and rebuilding.  The medrese actually sits on a site of a 14th century church that had been turned into a mosque in 1560 by a eunuch, Ibrahim Paşa, who added the medrese to it.  After an earthquake in 1894 cause extensive damage to the buildings it was abandoned.  It was once called by local people “the Chapel of the Gate of Jesus” or “Isa Kapısı Mescid” which may have referred to a gate in the original Constantinople city walls.
