Living in Fenerbahce
It is an extremely well maintained area with low-rise apartment blocks, sitting in green and leafy streets that have some excellent old mansions that are survivors from the distant past. One of the best mansions can be found near Fenerbahce Park that has a wooden façade adorned with a protruding classical-style bust and two flying green dragons acting as supports for the top floor bay window (cumba).
Kalamis Yacht MarinaIts neighbour, Kalamis , has a huge marina and this rather well-to-do residential area has some very upmarket restaurants. Fenerbahce actually means “lighthouse garden” in Turkish which comes from the lighthouse that is on the coast here.
Fenerbahce Football ClubFenerbahce is mostly famous for its top of the league football team who have their stadium here and it also has a wonderful park that first opened to the public in the 19th century.
Getting to FenerbahceTake the ferry from Eminonu or Besiktas to Kadikoy then either stroll along the coast road or catch a bus east to Fenerbahce.
