Galatasaray Hamam Istanbul

Galatasaray Hamam Istanbul
Opposite the Flower Arcade or Cicek Pasaji there is a small alleyway that passes the Zografyon Greek Boys School (Zografyon Rum Erkek Lisesi) that a wealthy Greek banker had built and was opened in 1893. Further along from here is the Galatasaray Hamam (www.galatasarayhamami.com) which is one of the most famous Turkish baths in Istanbul and has separate sections for men and women.

Galatasaray Hamam was originally built here in 1498 and served as part of a school complex established by Sultan Beyazid II and in 1715 a new hamam was built by Sultan Ahmed II which in due course was integrated with the Galatasaray High School . The women’s section was added in 1965 but is not anywhere near as impressive as the men’s section, and the hamam boasts of famous visitors that include Johnny Halliday, Tony Curtis and John Travolta.
