Garipce Istanbul

Garipce Istanbul
Garipce was known as Gyropolis (City of Vultures) during ancient times and was a place closely linked with the gods of the winds. It appears to have acquired its modern name from the corruption of “Karibce” which means “quite near” in Turkish, and possibly due to its closeness to Rumeli Feneri . Today it is a pretty and secluded fishing harbour that has a few ramshackle wooden houses and fish restaurants along with some remains of a castle that date back to 1778.
