Hill of Joshua or Yusa Tepe

Hill of Joshua or Yusa Tepe
One of the most spectacular and stunning views of the northern end of the Bosphorus can be seen from the top of this hill and at 198m is the second highest hill on the Bosphorus after Camlica Hill.  At the apex is a small 18th century mosque that stands on what is believed to be the Church of St. Panteleimon that dates from the reign of Emperor Justinian.  There is also a very beautiful 19th century fountain and from here you can look down to the Selviburnu and Macarburnu headlands. 

During ancient times there was a 12m long trench here called the “Bed of Hercules” although it was better known as the “Giant’s Grave” that Lord Byron wrote about in his tales of “Don Juan”, and Muslims believe this was the grave of Yuşa, a local holy man, thought to be the Prophet Joshua.
