There are also many shops, restaurants and cafés that lead on to Tunel Square and the entrance to the lively Tepebasi .
One of Istanbul’s secrets, the Yapi Kredi Vedat Nedim Tor Museum & Kazim Taskent Art Gallery which can be found on the corner of Galatasaray Square , opposite and is attached to the Yapi Kredi book store, that hosts free exhibitions covering anything from painting and photography to history and archaeology.
There is also a monument commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Turkish Republic that was designed by sculptor Şadi Çalik and erected in 1973, it is located in a small square off Yeni Carsi Road (Caddesi) that cuts across Istiklal Road (Caddesi).
Near here is the Danisman Gecidi, which was the Hazzopulo Pasaji or Arcade, that will take you past some shops to a courtyard of cobblestones that has one of the few remaining traditional teahouses left in the city; this was where the upcoming stars of the Young Turk movement, Ahmed Midhat Efendi and Namık Kemal published there controversial newspaper Ibret (Warning).

Getting to this end of Istiklal RoadUse the Tunel funicular railway from the Karakoy terminal and take a right when you leave the station. Or you can walk or jump on the historic tram from Galatasaray Square , and there is also a Metro station that exits at to this end Istiklal Caddesi.
