Location of KartalKartal sits on the Asian side of Istanbul along the coastline of the Sea of Marmara , and in between the districts of Maltepe to the west and Pendik to the east. Although Kartal is quite a distance from the city centre, it has a very large population with over 500,000 residents. Kartal covers an area of 147,000m2 which includes both inland and rural regions and its others neighbours, Sultanbeyli and Sancaktepe, are on its north side.
Transportation to / from KartalKartal is easily accessed by road from both the D100 main road from Anatolia to the Bosphorus Bridge, and the huge TEM motorway that crosses the Bosphorus via Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge. There is also a significant route on the coast road from Tuzla to Bostanci .
Sabiha Gokcen International Airport is just 15 minutes away and the brand new Marmaray project was completed in late 2013 and can reach the European side of Istanbul by a commuter rail system without an interchange in just a few minutes. Kartal also has a Metro station and the Haydarpasa - Gebze Line commuter train stops here.
Due to the many transportation options available in Kartal that reach the city centre, this has been instrumental in creating its huge population.
Luxury Apartment Complexes in KartalSeveral luxury apartment complexes have been built on the coast of Kartal and with considerably more housing built inland which has attracted more shops and infrastructure.
Construction in the coastal area of Kartal slowed down considerably after a major earthquake in 1999 as people became very aware of a major fault line that runs just off this coast, although building on the higher ground inland has proceeded rapidly and Kartal is projected to be a major urbanised, industrial area by the 2020s.
SchoolsKartal has several well-known private and state schools such as the German language high school Kartal Anadolu Lises (there are only a few such schools in Istanbul) and Kartal Anadolu Imam Hatip Lisesi, a religious school. The universities of Maltepe and Suleyman Sah are also here along with the other private universities.
Kartal AmenitiesKartal also has a lovely park around the Ayazma Fountain in Yakacik that is very popular with locals for picnics and as Kartal sits on the shoreline it has ferries that go to Adalar ( Princes' Islands ) and Yalova . Kartal offers every amenity, has quality housing and is a very nice area to live in.
