Kurucesme Istanbul

Kurucesme Istanbul
The name Kurucesme (Dry Fountain) appears to have come from the 17th century Koprulu Hemsire Fountain that was part of the Tezkireci Osman Efendi Mosque. It could have also originated from Korucecme “Fountain of the Woods” as at that time the area was leafy and green and the fountain had an abundance of water; it was after it had dried up that the name was changed.

This was once and industrial zone that stored coal and sand, which you would not believe today looking at this upmarket and very fashionable area. The only reminder of its past is the bus stop named “Komur Tevzii (Coal Distribution Point)”.

Things to do in Kurucesme

Kuruçeşme’s recently laid promenade takes you along the waterside of the Bosphorus and is a lovely place to take a slow amble while taking in the yachts owned by the wealthy and from where you can see the beautiful building that houses the Kuleli Military High School .
You can visit Galatasaray Island or Suada , Red Yali and churches in Kurucesme. Kurucesme is also home to the popular Robert College .
