Macka and Democracy Parks Istanbul
Macka and Democracy Parks are on to each other and fill the valley between Macka and Elmadag that is also divided by Kadırgalar Road and has a cable car that carries passengers from one side to the other.
The side of Democracy Park in Macka has cafés running along the rim of the valley which offer views over Besiktas Stadium to the Bosphorus .There is a large fountain on the corner where the park joins Abdi Ipekçi Road that was built in 1901 for Sultan Abdulhamid II by the Italian architect Raimondo d’Aronco. The fountain has a mixture of Ottoman baroque and Art Nouveau features and once stood in front of the Nusretiye Mosque in Tophane but was moved when the coast road was widened in 1957. There is also a bust of historian Dimitri Cantemir at the northern end of Democracy Park.
