The name Maslak comes from an old reservoir that brought water from the nearby Belgrade Forest and although attempts have been made to create a ritzy image here, the Buyukdere Road and its hectic traffic is a nightmare for pedestrians; you have to walk long distances to be able to cross over using the overpasses and it is not recommended for anyone with mobility problems. Also, among the gleaming modern high rise blocks you will find some of the roughest looking houses known as gecekondus (thrown up overnight) along with hundreds of street dogs. This area is also home to the Istanbul Technical University campus.
Places to Visit in MaslakFor the historians there are the Maslak Pavilions and for art lovers the Elgiz Museum of Contemporary Art.
