Orhan Kemal Provincial Library Simkeshane
The Library is housed in the Simkeshane that was originally a building used to mint silver coins during the reign of Sultan Mehmed II until the mint was moved to Darphane in the Topkapi Palace . Due to a fire in 1707 the original structure was rebuilt by Sultan Mehmed IV’s wife, Rabia Gulnus Ummetullah, but unfortunately was damaged again when road widening works took place in the 1950s.  
Immediately outside on the pavement are large chunks of marble that are the last surviving vestiges of the Forum Tauri and some are carved with peacock-eye patterns and have been re-erected near to where the triumphal arch once stood.
