Built for Orient Express PassengersThe lovely hotel was built in 1895 for the founder of the Compagnie Internationale de Wagons-Lits, Georges Nackelmackers, by French Levantine architect Alexandre Vallaury. It was originally built for the passengers of the Orient Express arriving from Europe and boasted of having “a thoroughly healthy situation, being high up and isolated on all sides”.
