Press or Basin Museum Istanbul

Press or Basin Museum Istanbul
This elegant stone mansion originally built for a university department in the 19th century, was commissioned by the Grand Vizier Saffed Paşa and designed by the Fossati brothers.  This part of the city was once the centre of the printing industry and because of this the museum is appropriately sited here.  Among its exhibits are a huge lithograph machine from 1870, a German offset printing machine from around the same time and many cameras from famous journalists.  In the hall is map listing all the local sites that have taken part in the history of printing, there is a café and gift shop and its possible to see whirling dervishes dance here on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays at 19:30.
