Istanbul has two airports. Ataturk Airport is situated 12 km west of Yesilkoy , while Sabiha Gokcen Airport is located near Pendik on the Asian side of Istanbul.
From Ataturk Airport, there are metro services available to city centre every 10 minutes from 6 am to 12:40 am.


Buses to other destinations

Two major bus stops (otogar in Turkish) operating to other destinations in Turkey are Esenler and Harem ( between Uskudar and Kadikoy ). There are more than 150 bus companies operating from Istanbul to other destinations.

Buses operating in Istanbul

If you would like to travel within Istanbul, there are bus stops available all around Istanbul. However, the main bus terminals are located in Eminonu , Besiktas , Taksim Square , Aksaray , Kadikoy and Uskudar . Buses generally operate between 6:30am until 11:30pm.

Kadikoy to Uskudar bus 12 and 14; Uskudar to Beylerbeyi and Anadolu Kavagi bus 15A; Eminonu to Besiktas , Arnavutkoy and Bebek bus 22 and 22C; Eminonu to Besiktas , Levent , Maslak , Sariyer and Rumeli Kavagi bus 25A; Sultanahmet to Eminonu , Karakoy and Besiktas bus 30; Taksim to Besiktas and Ortakoy bus 23B; Sultanahmet to Eminonu , Karakoy and Besiktas bus 30.


There are eight tramlines available:

Basaksehir – Olimpiyatkoy Line
Kadikoy – Kartal Line
Kabatas – Bagcilar Line

Topkapi – Habibler Line
Taksim – Kabatas Line


Taxis are painted yellow and they are all equipped with a meter. When you get in to a cab, make sure that the driver turns the meter on, and check the tariff the correct (day time and night time prices vary). The taxis are significantly cheaper than other European cities.

There are six sea bus routes available:
Bostanci – Kadikoy Yenikapi Bakirkoy
Bostanci – Kabatas
Kabatas – Islands – Bostanci
Bosphorus Line ( Sariyer , Beykoz , Istinye , Besiktas , Kabatas , Kadikoy , Bostanci )
Maltepe – Bostanci – Kabatas – Bakirkoy
Bostance – Kadikoy Yenikapi Bakirkoy – Avcilar
You might want to get on the Bosphorus Line as a touristic experience as it gives a tour of the best sections of the Bosphorus .


Istanbul has two mainline train stations: Sirkeci train station and Haydarpasa train station. Sirkeci train station is 250 meters away from Eminounu on the European side. Haydarpasa Train Station is situated 1 km north of Kadikoy.


Sea bus passenger and car services operate from Yalova , Bandirma and the islands of Avsi and Marmara, and arrive at the Yenikapi ferry terminal. If you are travelling from Istanbul to Izmir , using the Bandirma ferry would save you time. Second main ferry terminal is Karakoy International Maritime Passenger Terminal, which is situated across Galata Bridge.
Car ferries are also available. These are operated by Turkish Maritime Lines and they operate between Harem and Eminonu
