Sea Pavilion or Deniz Kosku Istanbul

Sea Pavilion or Deniz Kosku Istanbul

The Design of Sea Pavilion

This charming art deco structure looks very much like the piers found in British seaside towns and was designed by architect Seyfi Arkan in 1935. The European Bauhaus Movement can be seen on the buildings smooth surfaces of the walls and wide windows and it has a long walkway with a suite of rooms at the end.

Famous Guests

Ataturk stayed there at different times in summer for a total of 42 days
before he died in 1938, and the rooms remain fully furnished as they were then with many photographs of him enjoying himself on the beach and swimming in the sea. Famous guests that stayed there include King Edward VIII of England and Mrs. Simpson, who he went on to marry soon after, and following Ataturk’s death, presidents Ismet Inönü, Celal Bayar, Cemal Gürsel, Fahri Korutürk and Kenan Evren.
