When the statistics from the first seven months of the year is compared with last year, the figures show a 16% increase in the number of tourists visiting Istanbul. Only in the first seven months of 2012, 5,196,756 tourists visited this beautiful city.    Number of tourists who visited Istanbul each month is as follows:

One third (33.3%) of the tourists visiting Turkey, preferred to travel to Istanbul, making it the most popular touristic destination in the country. 

Airports Flown To

The figures show that the majority of the tourists arrived Istanbul by plane (4,938,108). Ataturk International Airport was still the most popular airport as only 14% of the tourists arriving Istanbul used the Sahiba Gokcen International Airport . 

Nationality of Tourists Visiting Istanbul

When the nationalities of the tourists visiting Istanbul is compared, the figures show that Istanbul is mainly popular with tourists from Germany (11.6%), Russia (5.8%), America (5.3%), France (4.7%), Britain (4.6%), Iran and Italy (4.4%), Holland (3%), Libya (2.2%), Iraq and Ukraine (2.1), Spain and Japan (2%), Azerbaijan and Saudi Arabia (1.9%).
