Taskisla or Stone Barracks
This huge building was originally constructed in 1846 as a military hospital which was used by French soldiers during the Crimean War.  It was designed by a British architect, William James Smith who had also worked on the British Consulate building.   It became known as the Mecidiye Barracks in the 1860s after it was built for Sultan Abdulmecid I and was restored during the reign of Sultan Abdulaziz and today it is the Taşkışla Campus of the Istanbul Technical University.
Stone Barracks are located in Gumussuyu Taksim area .
