Tavasi Suleyman Aga Mosque Istanbul

Tavasi Suleyman Aga Mosque Istanbul
This mosque dates from the 17th century although today’s building is a 19th century remodel and has a rather interesting wooden minaret. It was named after a ‘tavaşi’ or black slave, that had been castrated and sold into slavery at the Topkapi Palace and from nothing he went on to become Suleyman Aga the Chief Black Eunuch who was in control of the sultan’s Harem and used a network of spies.

Location

Tavasi Suleyman Aga Mosque is situated in Kumkapi Istanbul
