Tophane Pavilion or Tophane Kasri Istanbul
It was designed in 1852 by William James Smith who was also responsible for the British Embassy which is now the Consulate. Many foreign statesmen visited the sultans’ here and it was the venue for several international conferences and meetings. When the 1923 Treaty of Lausanne ended the Turkish War of Independence this was where the Bosphorus Commission met and arranged the agreement for the use of the Bosphorus Strait and today it is part of the Mimar Sinan University.
