Places to Visit in Topkapi

Ahmet Pasa Mosque

The nearby 15th century mosque Ahmet Pasa Mosque , built by Mimar Sinan , has a porch of original cuerda seca tiles and original arabesque painting under its galleries.

Takkeci Ibrahim Cavus Mosque

Another attractive mosque here is the wooden Takkeci Ibrahim Cavus Mosque or Camii that retains many of its original features including a wooden dome and tiles from the best of the Iznik period. The mosque was founded in 1592 by the takkeci,
makers of the felt hats (takke) that were worn by dervishes. The legend here is that the original hat maker dreamt he had to go to Baghdad to find treasure to enable the mosque be built. Arriving at the place where the treasure should have been buried he was told to return home immediately. When he got back to Topkapi he found two bags of gold at the site of the mosque, one he used to finance the construction and the other he buried should the mosque every be destroyed and need rebuilding. The imam at the mosque relates this story to the people who visit there.
