This attractive quarter at the southern end of the walls and about 5km from Sultanahmet is full of churches, it being the centre of Rum Orthodoxy, whose decreasing worshipers use the churches and are the last remaining descendants of the Byzantine Greeks.

Yedikule Walls and TowersYedikule (seven towers) referring to the fortifications of the area, specifically the “ Golden Gate ” triumphal arch constructed in 390 by Theodosius I before the walls were erected, these and the towers were added later by Mehmet the Conqueror .
