Balcova Izmir

Balcova Izmir
Balcova is one of the nine districts in the Greater Metropolitan Area of Izmir and is the smallest in terms of size, and follows the southern coastline of the inner Gulf of İzmir, 8km from the city centre. It has the neighbouring district of Narlidere on its south and west sides and is known for having some of the highest levels of education in Turkey with a literacy rate of 98%.

Balcova’s economy is largely based on commerce and tourism, it has three large shopping malls offering a great range of products and is the backbone for the first range of activities here and is also famed for its thermal baths.

Many new housing projects recently constructed aimed at mid-to-high income residents have placed Balçova in an advantageous place benefitting the area and becoming one of Izmir’s fastest growing economic metropolitan regions. Balçova is also home to the Izmir University of Economics and the Balçova Teleferik cable car that takes you up the mountain where there are picnic and barbeque facilities and offers fantastic views over Izmir.
