Gerga Ancient City Kusadasi
Location of GergaGerga is hidden away in the Gökbel Pass with the waters of the Cine river flowing far below. 12km south of Eskicine across the elegant İncekemer, Ottoman Bridge that spans the ravine and from here it’s a half hour walk to Gerga. Following the trail to İnce Kemer Village you eventually arrive at the hillside where the ruins stand.
Ruins of GergaOf interest is the tomb temple in the form of a house, currently used as a cowshed and in perfect condition. The stone roof is still intact and on its lintel has the Greek inscription “GERGAS” which has been theorised to be the name of a Carian god rather than the place name. There are also a couple of upright flattened monoliths shaped like termite nests adjacent to a large purification basin carved from living rock, a giant headless statue and remains of fountains one of which also bears the “GERGAS” inscription.
