Kursunlu Monastery Kusadasi

Kursunlu Monastery Kusadasi
Kursunlu Monastery is located at an altitude of 600m and is 10km from Davutlar and Kusadasi where the spectacular views it offers are hidden under the great plane trees. The monastery was built so far away and so high up as a defence from being attacked and its Byzantine structure is believed to have been built in the 11th century. It has a dining room, pantry, kitchen, cloisters, infirmary, chapel, cemetery, monastery and cellar walls, and defence rooms.

The monastery’s most important features are the ceiling frescoes where the symbolic and geometric designs together with religious and personal events depict the life of the monastery along with scenes from the life of Jesus Christ and the Bible which can be seen on the walls of the chapel.

Getting to Kursunlu Monastery

To reach the monastery you will need a car, drive from Kusadasi to the Davutlar district then follow the signs uphill 600m.
