Akyaka or Gokova

Akyaka or Gokova
Akyaka has always been a popular holiday place for the Turkish people and is now a rising international tourist centre because of its location and natural beauty.  30km to the north of Mugla and 37km south of Marmaris it is often referred to as Gökova, after the name of the gulf and plain it is in, and the nearby inland township. Akyaka sits on a slight slope amongst dense pine forest and as there is a preservation order in place most new properties are built in an attractive mock Ottoman style.

Beaches of Akyaka

The town’s hard packed sand beach is only good for access into the clear water of the gulf; there is a better gravel beach 2.5km west of town just beyond an old jetty and a more serviceable strand of beach to the east beyond the river mouth.

Accommodation in Akyaka

Accommodation options include the forestry campsite in a lovely setting with good facilities, hotels, and self-catering apartments.

Getting to Akyaka

The dolmus take 30 minutes to get there both from Mugla and Marmaris.
