Beaches of Marmaris
Some of the most popular beaches, apart from Icmeler Beach, is as follows:The island was so called as it is alleged to have been the meeting place of Cleopatra and Mark Antony, and the beach sand was believed to have been brought from Africa by order of Mark Antony.
Uzunyali Beach (Long Beach)The beach is adjacent to the Marmaris Folk Beach and stretches for 10km along the very sandy coastline to Icmeler . The area has a mediterranean climate from April through to November and the promenade here is traffic free with enough restaurants, cafés, bars and shops to suit everyone, offering its visitors a perfect beach holiday.
Turunc BeachThis superb Blue Flag beach is 21km west of central Marmaris and sits between rolling pine-forested hills and mountains and has calm beautiful turquoise water and looks across to the hills and bay on the other side.
Cleopatra Beach of Sedir (Cedrae) IslandNorth of Marmaris and 16km from its centre is this famous golden sand beach that is accessible from the port of Çamlık using the daily boat tours that are available there.
Kumlubuk BeachThe beach is 27km from central Marmaris and 6km from Turunc and you can access it by boat from Marmaris, it is a lovely sandy beach with clear blue waters and surrounded by wonderful natural fauna and flora.
Orhaniye or Kizkumu Beach36km from the centre of Marmaris, this area of Orhaniye is a lovely natural environment full of pine forests with great beaches and a calm sea. There is a sand bank in the water that divides the gulf into two parts and enables you to walk into the sea away from the beach for 600 metres before the depth changes. There is a legend that goes with it that tells of a woman in love who tries to meet with her lover and as she walks in the sea she fills her skirt with sand and when the sand ends she unfortunately drowns; this 600m of coastline became known as Kızkumu.
Cennet (Paradise) Island BeachThe island is actually a peninsular that is covered in forest, it takes half an hour to reach from Marmaris and is a popular stop for the daily boat tours. There is pansiyon (bed & breakfast) accommodation and restaurants and it is an excellent place for swimming and entertaining visitors.
Gunnucek BeachThe beach is 2km from Marmaris and is famous for its unique forest of “Liquidamber Orientalis” which is the Turkish Sweetgum tree. The oil extracted from this tree is used in the medicine and perfume industries.
Ciflik BeachYou access this large sandy beach by boat which takes two hours to reach and mainly popular with the yacht people, it has seaside restaurants and there is a small island in the bay.
Boncuk Cove BeachThis beach is 9km from Çamlı (near Sedir Island) and is very popular for its clean and inviting waters with good facilities on the shoreline and is an excellent place to swim.
