Kiran Lake Ruins Marmaris

Kiran Lake Ruins Marmaris
This lake is southwest of Marmaris , next to ancient Loryma , 30m in diameter and dry in the summer months.

Getting to Kiran Lake

The ruins here are accessed by taken a ferry from Bozukkale Harbour to the final stop and then climbing for two hours to reach them.

Excavations

Scientific research carried out by Dr. Zeynep Kuban and Dr. Turgut Saner in 1995 revealed a temple and altar (now under protection), theatre buildings and five ruined structures whose purpose have yet to be determined.

Ruins at Kiran Lake

There are blocks here similar to steles that have been placed in holes on top of large, flat rectangular blocks and pyramid graves that have steps and are unique to the region. Other types of graves are made into chambers using large blocks of stone and have cradle roof shaped covers.
Researchers believe the centre was used as a meeting point and cult centre for city groups, and to pay tax to the Attika Sea Union believed to have been in the Bozburun Peninsula.
