Sariana Marmaris

Sariana Marmaris
On a hill northeast of Marmaris town is the Ottoman style Tomb of Sariana (“Blonde Mother”) that was constructed in the 16th century for the prophetess Sariana.  During that time the prophetess was visited by many influential people, including Suleyman the Magnificent , who, whilst on his campaign to capture
the island of Rhodes was told by Sariana that he would be victorious and he went on to successfully lay siege to the island thus banishing the Crusaders to the island of Malta.  Even today local people believe her tomb continues to be a source of wisdom and prophecy. In recent times a new mosque has been built to adjoin the tomb.

The area of Sariana has holiday villa and apartment complexes, hotels, restaurants, bars and cafés; it has a promenade along the seafront and also a small river running through it.
